I first heard New Soul by Yael Naim on the Mac laptop commercial (the one that fits into a manila envelope - novel!) and loved it. Since then I've checked out some of her stuff online and it doesn't disappoint. I love the opening verse,
I'm a new soul,
I came to this strange world,
Hoping I could learn a bit 'bout how to give and take.
But since I came here,
Felt the joy and the fear,
Finding myself making every possible mistake.
.
Covers of pop/hip-hop songs seems to be a theme as of late and Yael doesn't miss out, covering Toxic by Britney Spears. At her concert in February, Ingrid Michaelson covered the theme song to The Fresh Prince of Bel Air and Jenny Owen Youngs covered It's Getting Hot in Here by Nelly when she opened for Ingrid at The Bowery Ballroom in December. I'll be making a purchase on iTunes to add this "simply magical record" to my collection.

Okay, so I LOVE that song (the Mac song)... I never knew who it was, but every time it comes on, Mike thinks it is Feist or Ingrid Michaelson.
Fun.
